Velasquez stops Dos Santos in 5th
HOUSTON — Cain Velasquez stopped Junior Dos Santos in the fifth round Saturday night at UFC 166 to retain the heavyweight title.
Dos Santos came out firing to start the final round, but Velasquez (13-1) worked him down to the mat only to have Dos Santos (16-3) get back up against the Octagon walls.
The two traded lefts before Velasquez landed a left and took Dos Santos down head-first to the mat, causing referee Herb Dean to stop the bout at 3:09.
The fight was the third between the two. Dos Santos beat Velasquez in 1:04 in the first meeting in 2011, and Velasquez won the second by unanimous decision in 2012.
In the co-main event, Daniel Cormier (13-0) unanimously outpointed Roy Nelson (20-9) in a heavyweight bout, with all three judges scoring it 30-27.
Dixon wins IndyCar title over Castroneves
FONTANA, Calif. — Scott Dixon has won the IndyCar championship, using a fifth-place finish at Auto Club Speedway to deny Helio Castroneves his first title.
Will Power won Saturday night’s season finale — a year after he crashed in this race to blow his own title chances and salvage the night for Penske Racing.
The big prize went to Dixon, who won his third series title and gave Target Chip Ganassi its 10th championship since 1990.
Wife of M’s player facing federal charges
SEATTLE — The wife of Seattle Mariners outfielder Carlos Peguero has been accused of making $180,000 in unauthorized purchases with a debit card belonging to another person in the Mariners organization, federal court documents showed.
Citing an anonymous source familiar with the investigation, The Seattle Times reported Saturday that the unnamed victims described in court documents are star pitcher Felix Hernandez and his wife. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office declined to comment beyond what was available in court filings, and a team spokesman did not return a call seeking comment.
Maria Jacqueline Peguero was charged earlier this month with three counts of wire fraud, according to the federal court documents. An agent with the U.S. Secret Service says in the court filings that Peguero made 60 unauthorized purchases in 2012 from the upscale retailer Saks Fifth Avenue.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jake Locker will start at quarterback for the Tennessee Titans today against the San Francisco 49ers, a person familiar with the situation said.
Titans coaches and trainers met Saturday and decided Locker should start rather than backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Titans did not announce the decision.
Locker sprained both his right hip and knee Sept. 29 against the Jets. He returned to practice Wednesday with brace on his sprained right knee and did more each day, and the Titans gave him a slight majority of the work Friday.
NFL.com first reported Locker was expected to start barring a setback.
